Father Prescott celebrating 50th anniversary with May 14 Mass

Father Herbert PrescottFather Herbert W. Prescott will celebrate the 50th anniversary of his ordination with a Mass of thanksgiving at 11:15 a.m. Saturday, May 14, at St. Stephen Church in Chattanooga.

Father Prescott was ordained for the Diocese of Nashville on May 28, 1955, by Bishop William L. Adrian at St. Thomas Church in Memphis. Now serving as a volunteer chaplain at Memorial Hospital in Chattanooga, where he was formerly director of pastoral care, Father Prescott from 1962 to 1965 was the first priest principal of Knoxville Catholic High School.

He later became the first principal of the newly consolidated Memphis Catholic High School and also taught at Notre Dame High School in Chattanooga and Bishop Byrne High School in Memphis.

He is a former pastor of St. Stephen and of the parishes of St. Bridget in Dayton, St. Thomas the Apostle in Lenoir City, Our Lady of Fatima in Alcoa, and St. Augustine in Signal Mountain and has served as a chaplain at the Alexian Village in Signal Mountain and at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Knoxville.

Everyone is welcome to attend the anniversary Mass. A reception will follow in the parish hall.
