Crucifix

St. Bridget blessings
Father Gilbert Diaz of St. Bridget Parish blesses a new crucifix Jan. 30, a busy day of dedications as the Dayton church completed phase one of a repair and renovation project. The 14-foot crucifix with a 7-foot corpus was crafted in Italy and installed by a crew of men and boys of the parish. Father Diaz also blessed a stained-glass window of the parish patron, installed in the rear of the church, and a pair of stained-glass panels on the sides of the church. The St. Bridget window was designed and created by Myra White and husband Bill of Southern Stained Glass in Murfreesboro. Artist Dee Mays of Soddy-Daisy crafted the stained-glass panels, replicating the design of and reusing glass from church windows replaced in the renovation. Also pictured are Deacon Mick Spencer (left) and servers Charles Wolfe (center) and Colin Patterson.

Immersion experience at Glenmary Farm
Stephanie Lubert (fourth from left), a member of St. John Neumann Parish in Farragut and a student at Fordham University in New York City, traveled to Vanceburg, Ky., recently to volunteer at the Glenmary Farm. The farm, an immersion program of the Glenmary Home Missioners, is in Lewis County in Northeast Kentucky. Each year hundreds of men and women come to the farm from all over the United States to experience rural and specifically Appalachian culture. Miss Lubert worked with other Fordham students and a group from the University of Illinois on construction projects with People’s Self-Help Housing and also participated in a “ministry of presence” by visiting a nursing home, a senior-citizens center and an adult day-care program. Those working with young men and women who would like to bring a group of volunteers to Eastern Kentucky should contact Joe Grosek at Glenmary Volunteer Program, P.O. Box 7, Vanceburg, KY 41179; 606-796-3421; or jgrosek@glenmary.org.
