Diocesan couples celebrate 50th wedding anniversaries

A couple from St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Fairfield Glade celebrated their 50th anniversary May 29, and a husband and wife from Our Lady of Fatima Parish in Alcoa will mark their golden anniversary July 1.

Mr. and Mrs. Renger Arthur and Rosemary Rengers of St. Francis Parish celebrated on the anniversary date with a riverboat dinner cruise along the Ohio River in northern Kentucky. Deacon Pat Palumbo officiated the couple’s renewal of vows aboard the boat.

Mr. and Mrs. Rengers were married May 29, 1954, at St. Martin of Tours Church in Washington Park, Ill., with Father T. C. Sickmann officiating.

The couple’s children, who provided the anniversary gift, are Marietta Schubert of Cincinnati; Rose Brock of Nashville; Steve Rengers of Portland, Ore.; Marilyn Thomas of Indianapolis; and Doug Rengers of Los Angeles. The Rengerses have six grandchildren.

Mr. Rengers retired as a product services manager from General Electric in Columbus, Ohio, in 1990 after working for the company 35 years. Mrs. Rengers worked for St. Timothy Parish in Columbus as a director of religious education and adult-education coordinator. She writes a monthly column for the Senior Times of Columbus.

Mr. and Mrs. Tinker Glenn and Betty (McCain) Tinker of Our Lady of Fatima Parish were married July 1, 1954, at the Alcoa church with Father Philip Thoni officiating.

Father Thoni will again be officiating when the Tinkers renew their wedding vows June 26. Father Xavier Mankel, a classmate of Mrs. Tinker at Knoxville Catholic High School, will assist.

The children of the Tinkers, who will host a reception following the Mass, are Sandra Tinker-Boatwright of Cleveland and Rick Tinker of Maryville. The Tinkers have two grandsons.

Mr. Tinker retired from MasterCraft Boat Co. and worked for Twin City Buick in Alcoa for more than 25 years. Mrs. Tinker continues to work part-time in the president’s office at the University of Tennessee.

The couple also celebrated their anniversary with an Alaskan cruise, accompanied by 18 family members and friends.
