Seventh-graders at Sacred Heart Cathedral School in Knoxville recently concluded
their school science-fair research with a two-day display of their work.
The fair ended with an awards ceremony, during which moderator and seventh-grade
science teacher Jan Byers praised the students for their hard work, originality,
and problem-solving techniques.
Students Kelly Booth, Katie McMahon, Spencer Payne, and David Reeves received
first-place honors. Second-place awards went to D. Coughlin, Lauren Jacobi, Julia
Namey, and Lanzi Young, and Michael Fisher, Tyler Gibson, Julia Slutzker, and
Addison Springer earned third-place certificates.
Honorable-mention awards went to Tate Ball, Anna Namey, and Patrick Proctor for
originality and to Tanner Ball, Will Coulter, Jenna Mire, and Becky Pocase for
problem-solving and presentation.
Top-three finishers competed in the Southern Appalachian Regional Science and
Engineering Fair, held April 5 through 9 at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville.
